South Bend Tribune: Food pantries see continued need as generosity, demand remain high

South Bend Tribune: Food pantries see continued need as generosity, demand remain high: "The fliers touted 1,600 boxes of free food for anyone who needed them — first come, first served. So, on July 28, the Goodwill Industries parking lot and South Bend's Western Avenue bulged with cars like a net with too many fish.

Fliers said the distribution would begin at 4 p.m., but folks lined up at noon. Organizers from the People Gotta Eat effort started giving out the food at 3 p.m., an hour early, to alleviate traffic.

They ran out of food just more than an hour later. Many dozens of carloads of people went home without a box."
