God is not a Republican, nor is He a Democrat

This past Sunday hundreds, perhaps thousand, of pastors across American defied American law and gave their support to one or the other of the candidates for president. For many it appears that once again God is a Republican. This past week I have searched and searched through both the Old and New Testament looking for where either God or one of His prophets proclaims that God is in fact a Republican. Perhaps one of my readers could point this scriptural passage out to me.

These pastors also seem to see the only issue confronting voters in November as abortion. I must agree with them that abortion is a life issue, but there are several life issues before all voters. Poverty is a life issue. War is a life issue.

So today I joined these pastors. but in my homily spoke of many of the life issues before voters. for those who were unable to join us for the Divine Liturgy and my mother's homemade soup following the liturgy, I recorded it. You can listen to day's homily of the parish's podcast. It is at:

God is not a Republican! God is not a Democrat! Time and time again we heard Christ talking about the poor and what we should do, but never do I hear He say anything about capital gains taxes or estate taxes, and never do I hear Him call for the bailout of Wall Street.

I invite you to post your comments as to what you think are the issues facing votes next month.
