Neighborhood Center Needs Your Help

Community Food Pantry in Need of Donations

09/17/08 The Neighborhood Community Food Pantry of Marshall County
has experienced an overwhelming amount of customers during the past
several weeks.

Jerry Nikitas, Executive Director of the Center said that during
August 581 citizens were served by his agency and more than 900
people took advantage of their free bread last month.  He
said, "People are short on funds with getting the kids ready to go
back to school and the sluggish economy."

The local food bank was recently approved for the Federal Commodity
Program but Nikitas explained that they won't receive their first
shipment until October.  "There is a real need for donations now," he
said.  Items needed include peanut butter and jelly, pancake mix and
syrup, dry cereal and oatmeal, canned soup or dry soup mixes, canned
vegetables, and protein such as tuna, chicken, ground beef and pork
chops.

Nikitas said, "We had a donation of six cases of Tuna Helper, so now
we need canned tuna."  He said there is always a need of personal
care items such as shampoo and deodorant, tooth paste and bath soap
because families can't purchase those items for their food stamps.

The Neighborhood Community Food Pantry of Marshall County is located
at 402 West Garro Street in Plymouth.   They are open Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday from 8:30 to
11:30 and 1 to 3 and on Saturday from 10 to 1.
